I've been a fan of Decoder Ring Theatre since I discovered them over 5 years ago on iTunes. If you like classic Red Panda adventures, this book is a must-read. It provides good insight into the mind of the masked man himself, and further fleshes out the Panda universe. If you've never heard of the Red Panda but like classic superhero stories, this book is a good fun read and great introduction to Decoder Ring Theatre. Honestly in my experience, any work by Gregg Taylor is going to live up to my rather high expectations. His writing is pure genius, the dialogue is engaging, and the plot and story lines are always fun and intriguing. I would recommend this book to anyone.Product details

As a fan of old school radio dramas, such as The Shadow and The Green Hornet, I truly love this book. You get a great story set in the Red Panda universe that is completely self contained and is a wonderful read. Even though I knew, for a fact, what the final fate of the two main characters was, I still was on the edge of my seat while reading it. Highly recommended.
A great superhero story. Lots of action in it without the gore.
Things you will find in this book
1) Heroic action coupled with clever repartee, truly reflecting the spirit and style of the great shows of old time radio
2) Fun, edge-of-the-seat suspense, with a healthy dollop of can't-put-it-down

The Crime Cabal isn't a parody or an attempt to take the mickey out of the pulp-hero genre. Rather, it brings the larger-than-life fiction of the 30's and 40's into the modern era. It's witty and fun and clever and serious and unashamedly heroic.
So if you like action, adventure, and curvaceous Torontonian ladies that could punch your local crime boss into next week, then run, don't walk, to the "Add to Shopping Cart" button now, and get on with the clicks.
I've been a Decoder Ring Theater fan from the first and I've been so happy and pleased to see Gregg translate the Red Panda stories and characters into print form. Bought the first three Red Panda books (hoping for more - hint, hint!) and Black Jack Justice as well.
Fans of Decoder Ring Theatre will have some idea what to expect from a Gregg Taylor Red Panda story. The Crime Cabal lives up to these expectations and more. Soundly based in the established Red Panda universe, the story has enough expansion of background and detail to give existing fans something to sink their teeth into, without requiring so much prior knowledge as to leave newcomers floundering.
The variety of points of view are refreshing and informative, and the book format allows an expansion of story not possible in the 30 minute podcast production. The expansion does not affect the pace of the storytelling however, at no point does it become tedious or do you wish it would hurry along.
All in all a book I highly recommend to existing fans and novices alike.
Take a graphic novel of a 30s masked crime fighter, complete with witty repartee. Add super science gadgets, and a sexy side kick. Run it through the script mill for a audio drama series, and then base it in Toronto Canada. Now you begin to have an idea what this novel offers. Read the novel, listen to the audio drama series, and let your imagination leap off the roof as a the masked avenger known as "The Red Panda."
I've been listening to DecoderRingTheatre's The Red Panda Adventures for long time now, and as a fan of course I had to get my grubby hands on this book.
Once I got it, I started reading it, and I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. It was a true page-turner for me. And the voices of the characters were in my head while I was reading it.
After I finished it I could've sworn that I had listened to the story instead of reading it myself, which is silly. But it's just that vivid.
If you like snappy banter, awesome action, diabolical fiends, great heroes with attractive sidekicks and a generous dose of humour, definitely pick this book up. You won't be disappointed.
